ROOM 6 AT MIDNIGHT (China 2024) - MINI REVIEW
If Inception was a Chinese horror movie, it would be this.
Two psychologists interview a brother and sister to try and unlock their memories of an event that occurred in an abandoned residential building. As they continue to probe them to uncover the truth, a series of twists and turns are revealed that question the sanity of all characters involved.
I know that going into watching any Chinese horror movie that it’s not going to be pleasant experience. I know this, and yet I still do it. Why? Because I love them.
This movie is just plain confusing. More confusing than any other Chinese horror movie you will see. If you’ve seen titles like Diamond Anxiety, then you know what to expect here. The whole movie is a set up for a therapy session, the only thing you need to work out is which of the five characters in the movie is the main one.
And then, like all Chinese horror movies, the ending is when it explains it all and simultaneously falls apart spectacularly. The twists and turns are confusing, made no sense and are just frustrating to the audience. If you’ve seen Inception, then you’ll know where the movie got its inspiration for its ending.
On top of that, the acting is so over the top. The woman who plays the “main” character for the first part of the movie is simply frustrating with her actions. And while it’s all explained at the end, most people won’t get that far.
