REVIEW: Perempuan Bergaun Merah (2022)
Yet another Indonesian horror movie, this time with strong J-horror vibes
Eschewing the usual Muslim-style religious theme for a more Chinese Indonesian style, this movie lays on the messages thick and fast. And then decides that it wants to be a J-horror film!
Plot
Dinda and Kara host an impromptu party at Kara’s apartment with 4 other people – 2 boys and couple. After a heavy bout of drinking, Dinda runs to the bathroom to throw up and is attacked by one of the boys. She escapes, leaving Kara behind and wakes the next day to a phone call from Kara’s mother – she’s missing and the apartment is in a mess.
One month later and Kara’s body still hasn’t been recovered, but Dinda, the other 4 partygoers and Kara’s boyfriend Putra all start witnessing a ghostly apparition of a woman in a red dress.
One by one, the partygoers end up brutally murdered, until Dinda and Putra work out where Kara’s body is, so her spirit can rest and stop all the murders.
