REVIEW: Keramat 2 (2022)
Monty Tiwa returns with a creepy found footage/POV style supernatural horror film from Indonesia.
Indonesia and horror. They are the biggest producers of horror films in South East Asia and 2022 was a terrific year, with Satan’s Slaves 2, The Doll 3, Inang, KKN, Mumun and now this film.
Plot
A group of young adults – three boys and three girls – travel to a sacred location in Indonesia to record a documentary about a lost cultural dance, and to create supernatural content for a YouTube channel.
When they visit the house belonging to an old dancer who was last known person to perform the lost dance, they open up a box full of her belongings, which also then unleashes an ancient grudge curse. While filming additional content for the YouTube channel, the boys visit a haunted site and summon her spirit using the Jailungkung ritual.
A fourth girl, a spirit medium who is friends with the boys who run the YouTube channel, joins them and helps one of the girls channel the lost dancer so they can record the routine, however they are interrupted, and Maura is knocked unconscious.
In order to rescue their friend, they all need to enter the realm of the dead to satisfy the dancer’s requirements and put her soul to rest.
